Kill The Messenger Hit theaters this month to very positive reviews, how does that feel to be in a project people are praising?

I am proud to be associated with a true story that didn’t necessarily get the attention it deserved at the time it happened. Gary Webb’s journey as a journalist finally has a proper voice and it was told so beautifully by Jeremy Renner. I met the real life Webb family at the NYC premier, definitely a highlight!

You worked with Roger Corman on your first lead role. How did it feel to work for a Hollywood legend?

I still get giddy thinking about it. I actually still stay in touch with his wife who is such a lovely person. Initially, I wasn’t fully aware of his magnitude in Hollywood. This definitely helped in the audition room because there was less stress. Once I booked the job, my coach was like DO YOU KNOW WHO THIS IS!!! It’s a blessing to be among the roster with Sandra Bullock, James Cameron, and so many more.

Which is tougher, acting or being in a pageant?

Being in a pageant by far! Acting is wildly enjoyable. I haven’t had to do any heavily emotional scenes so I may change my mind at a later date- but for now, I am going with Pageantry. There is only one winner, and you put so much focus and energy in to one single competition. We are always told everyone leaves as a winner, which is true with the friendships and life lessons, but you still secretly want to win. Acting is also less judgmental- there is more than one way to approach a scene or audition. Also in acting, you have more opportunities to “win”. Any audition where I make someone in that room laugh is a win in my book.

Does being a celebrity prevent you from being or doing something you really like?

Social Media is tricky sometimes. I understand there are certain types of posts my “fans” appreciate more and certain types that my actual friends and family want to see. It’s tough meeting in the middle! I really do love my fans though!

Name 3 people you admire.

Tina Fey, Stan Lee, Richard Branson.

If you were not acting what would you be doing?

I would be a flight attendant! I am too impatient for a desk job, and the perks of free travel? Yes please! I actually played a flight attendant in an episode of Entourage with Jerry Jones!

What is your most embarrassing moment?

It takes a lot to embarrass me. After one of my first acting classes in LA when I first moved here, I slipped on a pile of dog poo in front of some pedestrians.

Name a few actors you would love to work with?

Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, and Bill Hader. Clearly I love SNL!

Name your favorite websites you surf on the internet?

Buzzfeed, Twitter, BackStage, and Imdb.

How do you remain calm and gracious when being harassed by paparazzi and the media?

Luckily this has not been a problem. I understand that it comes with the territory of being in the entertainment industry. Maybe as my star rises, I will see more of this, but right now I lead a relatively paparazzi free life!

What is your favorite childhood memory?

My Granddaddy learned a few magic tricks and performed them in front of one of my elementary school classes. I felt pretty cool because I knew all of the secrets behind the show.

Are you a night owl or morning person?

Depends on what I have going on the next day! I am more of a weekend warrior. During the week, I like to get up and be productive, but on the weekends, I enjoy staying up late and sleeping in!

Are you messy or a neat freak?

When I am traveling back to back, my apartment in LA is a disaster. I hardly have time to unpack one suitcase before I repack another so clothes end up every where. However, if I am in LA for a lengthy period, my place stays clean! My mom would be so proud.

What color is your toothbrush?

I have a few! I have a purple Justin Bieber one, a yellow One Direction one, and of course, a green Ninja Turtles one!

Are you a good driver?

I am not. Thankfully, no one has been injured as a result of my lack of driving skills. I have replaced a few bumpers in my day! My friends know that I make a better passenger/DJ than driver.

what is your favorite movie?

I have to pick just one? Dumb & Dumber. I can recite every line.

What are a few of your favorite things in nerd culture?

1) The camaraderie of comic conventions. The attendees are so welcoming and friendly towards each other. No one is competitive, judgmental, or bullied. 2) I am a fan of DC comics, specifically, Jim Lee’s art. 3) ZOMBIES!

Game you feel you can beat people at?

Tiger Woods Golf, Fantasy Football, Sudoku, and pool. ( the real life kind though!)

You have a love for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, where did that come from?

My step brother watched it, and he and I watched it together when I was at my dads house growing up! I was never in to barbies or any doll for that matter. I watched the power rangers and the ninja turtles!

You do a lot of charity work with your charity Pageant of Hope, Tell us a little about it and where we can go to help.

I run a successful charity event through my non profit called Pageant of Hope. It is a non-competitive pageant for kids facing challenges where every participant leaves a winner. We teach the kids that inner beauty is what is most important and raise their self esteem by transforming them into princes and princesses for the day! (Visit for more info) The next event is in Georgia on November 30th in Winder and December 17th in Jamaica.

What projects do you have coming out?

I have two projects in production right now. Down Angel and The Forest. Stay tuned for more info!

Where can everyone find you on social media? on Facebook and @jenamsims!  on Twitter and Instagram. I love interacting with fans.
